Stand tall Molly Lou Melon is a cute story about a little girl who is proud of who she is. She stands tall even when the school bully teases her. Molly Lou is confident and talented. By the end of the story, she wins the bully over and becomes his friend. I love reading this to my class. The students love the illustrations and moral of the story.
After I read the book all the way through I ask text dependent questions, which are centered around the Core Reading Literature standards.
We focus heavily on character traits. First, we focus on Molly Lou’s character, then we look at the bully Ronald’s character traits and learn what makes him a bully.
Then, we read “I Like Myself” and talk about our own character traits. Students learn a lot about themselves and their classmates during this discussion.
