100TH DAY ACTIVITIES FOR LITERACY

Even though 100th Day activities focus heavily on math, we recommend throwing in some important literacy skills as well. We like to read aloud a themed story, then have students record story elements on a graphic organizer. Some of our favorite 100th day of school books to read aloud are:

  •  One Hundred Hungry Ants, by Elinor Pinczes
  • Ready Freddy- The One Hundredth Day of School, by Abby Klein
  • Ms. Bindergarten Celebrates the 100th Day of Kindergarten, by Joseph Slate
  • Happy 100th Day!, by Susan Milord
  • The One Hundredth Day of School from the Black Lagoon, by Mike Thaler

100th day activities for math

There are so many 100th Day activities for math that will help build understanding of the number 100. Depending on your grade and the standards you are trying to teach, here are our recommendations:

  • Focus on numeracy and counting. Find creative ways to count to 100 by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s.
  • Recognize number patterns on a hundreds chart.
  • Focus on place value to the hundreds place.
  • Build arrays that model the number 100
  • Distinguish how much 100 is using standard and non standard measurements. Watch this short video that encourages students to predict the volume of 100 drops of water.

100th Day of school games

From making crowns to designing t-shirts or dressing up to be 100 year old, we’ve tried pretty much everything to solidify 100 with our students as we celebrate one hundred days of learning. Here are other 100th Day of School games and activity suggestions to make the most of your Hundred Day lessons.

  • Bring in some physical fitness.  Call out an exercise, set a timer and have students count and record how many they can do in 100 seconds. This 100 second timer includes music with a good workout tempo.  Or, make a list of 10 different exercises and have students complete each exercise 10 times for a total of 100 exercises.
  • Encourage writing with engaging prompts. ‘I wish I had 100…’  ‘When I’m 100 years old…’  ‘If I had $100 I would…’  ‘I would not want 100…’
  • Play Would You RatherCreate 100-themed dilemmas with options A and B. Ask students to vote on which dilemma they would rather encounter.  Examples include- Would you rather have 100 wrinkles or 100 pimples?  Would you rather see 100 spiders or 100 snakes?  Would you rather have 100 days of rain or 100 days of snow?
