The Golden Acorn Read Aloud

Another school year is officially in full swing. At this point, you have already enjoyed welcoming your new group of students and getting to know them through back to school activities.

Now that back to school festivities are done for the year it means that the weather is probably starting to cool off a bit. Therefore, you must be starting to think about all the fun fall activities you can do in the classroom

From Halloween to Thanksgiving, fall is such a fun season to explore with young kids. While we LOVE celebrating these fun fall holidays they are not the only fun fall topics you can explore in the classroom.

In addition to the holidays, the leaves falling is one of the other wonderful and fun events to explore during this time of year. It’s not just the leaves that fall though!

The Golden Acorn Teaching Resources

Depending on where you live, you and your students may be quite familiar with other things that fall from trees – like acorns! However, even if your students are not familiar with acorns they will get a chance to learn about them while reading The Golden Acorn by Katy Hudson.

This book isn’t just about acorns though. The Golden Acorn is a book about friendship, sharing, and teamwork. All wonderful lessons can be taught to students from PreK through second grade.

The Golden Acorn PreK Read Aloud

When we first created The Golden Acorn read aloud it was for first and second graders. However, we soon realized that this book is a great choice for preschoolers as well.

Now, we have teaching resources for The Golden Acorn for Prek, kindergarten, 1st grade, and second grade.

If you are an elementary school teacher, go ahead and jump down the page to read more about The Golden Acorn teaching resources for first and second graders. If you are teaching Prek or Kindergarten you can go ahead and keep reading from here.

As an early education teacher you know that teaching literacy skills is important at any age. Therefore, we created a read aloud that will help you teach your preschoolers (or kindergarteners) these important skills.

Early Literacy Activities

The first step in helping early readers develop their literacy skills is to get them excited about reading! That’s why we believe book selection is just as important as the reading comprehension activities.

When you sit down to read The Golden Acorn to your preschoolers they will be hooked. They will love following Squirrel as he sets out for the annual Golden Nut Hunt race.

Beyond seeing the excitement on your kids’ faces as they engage with Squirrel’s story you will love the lessons you can teach them throughout the book. Squirrel will help you teach them about how to be a team player and we will help you teach them about using the text to show comprehension.

Because this book has so much to offer we have created a read aloud that covers several days. Yup, we have given you enough reading resources for 3 to 5 days worth of lessons! That means you have a full week’s worth of reading lessons ready to teach.

Curious about what lessons we have provided? Take a look below!

The Golden Acorn Activities for 1st and 2nd Graders

Hello, elementary school teachers! If you jumped down to this section then you must be a first grade or second grade teacher. Welcome!

As former first grade teachers ourselves, we know how important read alouds are for these grade levels. That is why read alouds have been one of our primary teaching resources from the beginning.

As such an important part of first and second grade we know that read aloud activities are needed for the entire week. That’s why all of our read aloud resources are developed to be used over the course of three to five days (just like our PreK read aloud).

By providing you with a week’s worth of reading activities you get to enjoy focusing on teaching your students. Moreover, your students get several opportunities to revisit the text.

Reading Activities for The Golden Acorn

Just like our PreK read aloud, these daily lessons for The Golden Acorn invite students to explore the story further. Moreover, the variety of activities helps students demonstrate their comprehension in several different ways.

In addition to providing your students with different ways to demonstrate their comprehension, you can provide different formats for the activities. All of the activities can be used digitally or as printables.

Here are some examples of the activities your first and second graders will get to explore.

Fall Read Alouds

Obviously, we think The Golden Acorn is a great choice for a fall read aloud. We also think there are several other amazing children’s books to use this time of year. Take a peek at some of our favorites below.
