Micro School Lessons Plans for 3-5 Year Olds

If you have found this blog post then you already know there is more behind micro schools than just seeming like the newest trend in education. You may even know that while these schools seem like a new concept they have been around for decades.

Even though micro schools have been around for years it is still a new concept for many people. Therefore, there are more and more people looking for micro school lesson plans.

Before diving into the micro school lesson plans for 3-5 year olds we have provided below, it is important to understand how micro schools are set up. Moreover, to understand how individual classes are organized. This will help you better know what type of content you need for lessons.

How Micro School Classes Are Created

A significant difference between micro school classes and traditional school classrooms is how the classes are created. In a conventional school, classrooms are based on grade levels.

These grade levels are established around the common age of all the students. For example, kindergarten students are all about 5 years old. While some may turn 6 during the school year, the majority of students are 5 for most of kindergarten.

However, in micro schools classes are created by age groups. In contrast to a traditional kindergarten classroom where everyone is five years old, a micro school class may include a group of 3-5 year olds.

While this may seem like a big range for students to be learning together, there are several benefits to grouping students like this. One of the key benefits is that it allows students to learn at their own pace and encourages teachers to create individualized instruction.

What Does a Micro School Curriculum Look Like

Although micro school classrooms look different in how they are organized they still have many similarities to the curriculum taught in traditional schools. Students are still provided a curriculum focused on the common core standards.

A micro school curriculum will include the same subject areas taught in other schools.

  • Math
  • Reading & Writing (literacy)
  • Science
  • Social Studies (including history and geography)

In addition to these standard subject areas, many micro schools include also include STEM in the school curriculum.
