ATTENTION GETTERS create a structured and energetic way to engage students. Attention grabbers are a great way to start back to school with clearly defined classroom management procedures.
Our ATTENTION GETTERS follow a call and response pattern where the teacher gives a specific phrase and students respond in unison with the desired response. For example- the teacher calls, “ABC” and the students respond, “It’s easy as 1,2,3.”
Some of the attention getters have an additional purpose beyond call and response. We’ve organized our attention grabbers into these categories- general call and response, empty hands, redirect focus, decrease noise level, and pause student movement.
EXAMPLES:
– Teacher says, “I can make your hands clap.” Students clap a predetermined and pre-taught rhythm pattern.
– Teacher says, “Brush your teeth.” Students use pointer fingers as pretend tooth brushes and say, “ch, ch, ch, ch” in a rhythm.
